02/09/2025: I had a feeling going into Super Bowl LIX that the Philadelphia Eagles had the edge, but I was very surprised it resulted in a gigantic edge as the Eagles’ defense kept the Kansas City Chiefs scoreless in the first half. The Eagles’ offense was just as deadly and, with the help of the defense, scored 27 unanswered points! The Eagles’ number one defense created numerous Chiefs’ turnovers, one of which was a pick-six.

Final score: Eagles 40, Chiefs 22.

  President Trump, who declared himself a Chiefs fan, arrived at the stadium and left at halftime. That’s when the Chiefs scored the 22 points. Perhaps that’s what Kansas City needed, as there was less pressure from the President still being there. Who knows?

  And what about that halftime show? You know, Kendrick Lamar’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show performance. I’m not a fan of rap, as the performances cater to the now generation and not mine. I grew up liking early rock and roll, both guitar instrumentals and vocals, as well as the great bands and guitarists of the ‘70s. What could be a better rock song than Hotel California?

  I was, however, very impressed with Lamar’s performance and gave him the nod for the hard work he must have had to endure in getting such a large number of dancers to learn their parts expertly. His vocal message this time wasn’t just for his loyal fans, but for all who care about the Palestinian and Gaza crisis. Why did the NFL hire Kendrick? Surely the committee must have known how controversial the message was. In any event, President Trump was not pleased.

  As predicted, the Cowboys ended the regular season with a 7-win, 11-loss season, and Jones wasted little time hiring a new coach: Brian Schottenheimer—much to the Dallas fans’ chagrin. They were hoping for a much better candidate. One interesting note: The Eagles are in the NFC East Division, along with the Cowboys, Giants, and Commanders. This is the only division in which all the members have won a Super Bowl. In addition, the division members have also won the most Super Bowls collectively. How cool is that, Cowboys fans?

  The UNM Lobos Basketball team is rolling, and Coach Richard Pitino’s defense has a lot to do with it. The Lobos seem to struggle in the first half and then run away with it in the second, thanks to continuous double-doubles by Nelly Junior Joseph and Donovan Dent. It’s beautiful to see.

  The Lobos improved their Mtn West lead to 13–1 (21–4 overall) after a sluggish first half with the Wyoming Cowboys in Albuquerque on 02/12/2025. Down by ten points at the beginning of the second half, the Lobos clawed their way back into the game, winning by a score of 71 to 67. It’s predicted that if the Lobos beat Utah State, they will move into the top 25 basketball standings. So, here’s Lobo Power. Go Lobos!
