ROBERT KELLY

ROBERT KELLY REMEMBERED ON MAY 19, 2024 IN LAS

VEGAS

(article by Robert’s son, Adam Kelly)

[Editor’s Note: Robert Kelly was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame for songs that he wrote back in the ‘50s, and some were hits, but he didn’t sing them. Kelly’s biggest hit was “Get It” thanks to Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps. The final sentence of Kelly’s chapter in "Eleven Unsung Heroes of Early Rock and Roll" says that Kelly never did catch that first big break that might have cemented his name in the annals of rock and roll, but he is most certainly among its unsung heroes. He never held another job, as Robert Kelly and the Pikes was his only means of income.]

"There were equal amounts of tears and laughter at Bob Kelly's memorial get-together Sunday night [May 19, 2024]. Kelly's son, Adam, asked several of his dad's closest friends and family to eat, drink, and share memories. My ex-wife, Joanie, kindly offered her lovely home for the event and, along with our daughters, Noel and Angela, helped Adam fulfill his desire to honor Robert Gene Kelly.

“It was terrific to have several friends fly in from out of town, including one of Kelly's band members from the 50s. What a treat! It was an evening of joy for all of us. The dozens of photos, stories, gift bags, and t-shirts (that listed Kelly's published original songs) made it an unforgettable evening. The memories flowed like the good booze and catered food (provided by Adam). Yes, it was a good night for a party! Our celebration united us all in a feeling of love and respect. We love you, Kelly!
